Overcoming Challenges: The Supermom syndrome
This past weekend, I decided to put my son's crib together and paint our living room. I remember being so excited about it, eagerly ordering all the materials and tools from Lowe’s, ready to be Supermom for the weekend.
Saturday started with a lovely brunch at our church. When we returned home, I set out to assemble the crib. With my son in his walker, I tried to decipher the instructions. However, I quickly became overwhelmed. It’s incredible how sensitive he is to my emotions; he started to cry, and my focus dwindled. Frustrated and feeling unprepared, I began to cry too.
In that moment, I decided to take a break. I picked up my son, and we lay down for a nap. Before falling asleep, my mind raced. I found myself comparing our lives to others, regretting purchasing a home so early, questioning whether I could raise my son on my own, and blaming everything on his dad. My mind became my worst enemy, spiraling from excitement to overwhelming doubt and frustration.
However, I realized that moments like these are just that ... moments. They pass, and from them, we can grow and mature. God grants us grace in these challenging times.
After our nap and a sip of apple juice, I felt refreshed and determined. I completed putting together my son's crib and painted the wall. In that moment, I learned the importance of taking breaks, understanding that difficult moments are temporary, and seeking strength to persevere.
This weekend taught me that with patience, faith, and a little break, I could overcome my challenges and emerge stronger.
