Reflecting on Year 26: Lessons Learned and Goals for the Year Ahead
As I approach my twenty-seventh year, I feel compelled to reflect on my journey. Specifically, I want to look back on the transformation from a 7-year-old Jayda to the person I am today.
Wassup, I'm Jayda Q. Youmans, the third child of what some affectionately call the brat pack. Growing up, I was known as the crybaby, the nurturer, and the maternal figure. Academically, I faced challenges, unlike my intelligent siblings, requiring extra support. But it was my community that shaped me, imparting both positive and negative influences that have contributed to who I am today.
During my senior year of high school, I was diagnosed with depression and ADD. Shortly after, I tragically lost my cousin/God sister in a car accident, just five days before my 18th birthday. Strangely, her passing became my salvation. In the aftermath, I found myself adrift, unsure of my next path. But Savannah's memory pushed me through college. I started by pursuing my Associate's Degree at TriCounty Technical College, aiming to become the first among my siblings to earn a college degree. Later, I transferred to the University of South Carolina Upstate, where I earned my Bachelor's in Education. Currently, I'm pursuing my graduate studies at Walden University, focusing on Clinical Mental Health Counseling. In addition, I hold a full-time position as a financial aid counselor at the University of South Carolina, while also managing my entrepreneurial endeavors.
Looking back, I'm grateful for every twist and turn. As I review my Snapchat memories from 2016 to 2022, I realize the role of prayer, affirmation, manifestation, and grace in shaping who I've become. It hasn't been easy, I've stumbled, made mistakes, and shed tears, but I've remained loyal, honest, and authentic throughout. Initially burdened by the pressure to live up to the high standards set by my older siblings, I now find peace in my accomplishments as I near the age of 27.
Proudly representing the Low Country of Souf Cak, I embody resilience and determination. My goal is to inspire single mothers dealing with postpartum depression, and anxiety, graduate students, women struggling with self-esteem issues, fibroids, entrepreneurship, insecurities, and those navigating family trauma. I aim to equip the next generation with the tools they need for success. Kleansed Wellness is my first venture, and I'm excited to see what the future holds.
God, I thank you for it all and I say Yes to your plan. So, whats next?
