What is Mothering?
Mothering is the conscious choice to care for, love, and provide for your child or children. Recently, I’ve worked 14 days straight with barely any sleep, adjusting to a new schedule while trying to stay active.
On my way to pick up my son from his grandparents, I pondered the word "mothering" and what it truly means to be tired. I considered the real definition of exhaustion. As I plan and prepare for Ermias' and my future, I am excited because I trust that God’s plan is far greater than mine. I rarely feel tired because providing for my child doesn’t feel like a job when I love to do it. I can’t and won’t complain about the small blessings, the grace God has shown me, and the love and nurturing He has given to my son and me.
This morning, we had his nine-month check-up. Hearing the doctor praise how well his gross and fine motor skills are developing, how his social skills are flourishing, and how socially responsive he is, calling him an overachiever filled, me with pride. These moments reassure me that I am mothering well. The fear of raising my son alone was a blessing in disguise, proving that I can and will succeed in this journey. No matter the circumstances, we will thrive.
Today was another confirmation that I am that Muva. I am built differently. I am that girl.
Muvas, continue mothering, continue to put God first, and stay the course. Trust your gut feelings and keep moving forward.
